Financial Support

Childcare Support

If you need help with the cost of childcare while you study, financial support may be available depending on your age, course and individual circumstances.

Once you have submitted an application to the Learner Support Fund*, please email studentfunding@barnsley.ac.uk to also complete a Childcare application form.

Please note: you cannot be entitled to Childcare funding until you have become entitled to the Learner Support Fund. You are only entitled to claim funding for either childcare support or travel costs, and not both.

*Funding is available for students that receive a course fee waiver. Not all students are guaranteed financial support with support provided on actual costs of studying basis.

Students Under 20

If you are under 20 at the start of your course, you should apply for childcare support through the Care to Learn Scheme.

The scheme is administered by the College and you should submit your application through PayMyStudent portal.

Students aged 20 or over

If you are aged 20 or over, you may be able to receive help towards your childcare costs if you have been approved for either:

  • 19+ Learner Support Fund, or
  • Advanced Learner Loan Bursary

Before childcare support can be considered, you must first use any free childcare entitlement available to you through government provision.

How to apply

You must first submit an application for the relevant Learner Support Fund through PayMyStudent portal.
Once you have applied, please email studentfunding@barnsley.ac.uk to request and complete a Childcare Application Form.

Please note: You cannot receive childcare funding until your eligibility for the relevant Learner Support Fund has been confirmed.

Advanced Learner Loan Bursary

If you are eligible for the Advanced Learner Loan Bursary, you can receive support towards either childcare costs or travel costs, but not both.

Important information

Financial support is subject to eligibility and the availability of funds. Funding may be available to students who receive a course fee waiver, but financial support is not guaranteed. Any support awarded will be based on your individual circumstances and the actual costs associated with attending your course.
